Popular “meat-market” smartphone app that spawned an intimate transformation in Australia’s gay people happens to be compromised by a Sydney hacker, possibly revealing romantic individual chats, specific images and personal data of users.

The location-aware Grindr software allows gay men to fulfill some other gay people just who might be just metres aside, using their mobile’s Global Positioning System (GPS). It got when it comes to 100,000 Australian users by August this past year and more than one million users worldwide.

Now a hacker has forced the app developer into a security situation that has remaining the users honestly prone considering the vast amounts of private information traded through the application – in many cases naked images.

The hacker found a way to sign in as another individual, impersonate that user, talk and send photos with the person.

The weaknesses will also be present in Blendr, the directly type of the application, relating to a security professional exactly who stated both programs got “no actual security” and happened to be “poorly developed”. Fairfax mass media is not conscious that Blendr might hacked but the potential is truth be told there, in line with the protection specialist.
